Our Mission Statement

Our intention is to establish a network of like-minded groups, organisations and individuals to challenge current goverment policies of harm reduction to one of detoxification and residential rehabilitation, so that we can help addicted people become drug free.

We are aware that a spontaneous abstinence is not a current reality but we work towards this abstinence with hope and  vigour.

Most of us are parents and partners of addicted people and our stories and feelings must be taken into account along with the frustrations of our addicted family if any steps towards abstinence are to be realised.

The disappointments caused by current policies and delivery of services to addicted people have to be drastically improved.  More truthful than "street talk" and media presentations are our experiences for we are walking the walk, so to speak and we must be heard.

By rehabilitation, we mean restoration to a full and purposeful life through on-going support and where initial detoxification is part of a wider and longer term period which will also encompass social re-education, self esteem and training to reintegrate into society.

We wish to present to the  addict a moral and a consciousness through which he/she can resume worthwhile contribution to society.

We aim to intensify formal and informal contacts between institutions, organisations and citizens to foster common actions in order to create a drug free society.

One of these important contacts takes the form of an annual conference where local, national and international speakers make expert presentations and answer questions to general or specific audiences. Our first two conferences in Kirkcaldy were very successful and we are currently preparing a third.

Conference audiences involve general public, NHS Staff, politicians, local police, the media and local community drug teams as well as drug users and their families (co-dependents). All have important input to ensure that the awareness and reality of this roundabout that  we call addiction, is made public.

Keep an eye on our Conference Page

Drug Free Scotland is affiliated to EURAD - Europe Against Drugs and we urge you to visit EURAD website and take part in the global challenge against drugs and to comment on unhelpful policies in our country and abroad.
